Andhra Pradesh, which is in desperate need of financial help to build a world-class capital city - Amaravati, received a major fillip in the Union Budget announced by Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday.

She announced a financial package of Rs 15,000 crore for Amaravati in the current fiscal year and assured additional funding in the future.

Recognising the needs of Andhra Pradesh, the Finance Minister said that the BJP government will offer financial assistance to Andhra Pradesh through multilateral agencies.

Additionally, Nirmala Sitharamn announced financial help for the Polavaram project, backward districts, and the development of industrial corridors in Kopparathi and Orvakal nodes.

The development of Amaravati as a capital city was planned by Chandrababu Naidu during his tenure as the first CM of Andhra Pradesh post bifurcation. However, it was neglected by the YSRCP government that came into power in 2019.

According to Nirmala Sitharaman, the BJP government is committed to offering financial support for the Polavaram irrigation project and its early completion. She also mentioned that the Centre will start reissuing special funds for the backward districts of Andhra Pradesh and north Andhra.

Chandrababu Naidu, AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh welcomed the allocations and promises made by the government for the development of the AP and its capital, Amaravati.
